It is with heavy heart that we post the following image in memory of one of Finch Coasters most dedicated members of the clubs 30 year history, joining in 1986 along with fellow coasters Danny and Christine.
John was a member who has held numerous positions on the committee helping to shape and form the current way in which the club not only runs but also the underlying ethos of the club. His commitment also went beyond the committee.
He was always a regular at the Woodland 5’s helping to marshall on the course or aid with the smooth running of the race. He was also a regular in helping out on the long summer runs, driving the minibus and coming up with route plans.
John passed away after a short illness on 21st December 2013 shortly before his 71st birthday and leaves behind his wife Marilyn, 2 sons Mike and Tom; 2 daughters Katy and Heather and, numerous grandchildren.
As you can imagine John was a keen runner completing several 7 sister marathons (now renamed to Beachy Head Marathon), 1/2 marathons and plenty of races including Combe Gibbet and plenty of cross country races where he was notorious for being a hard man to catch especially if you let him get away from you. As the years ticked by John simply swapped running for walking instead and could often be seen at the start of Thursday runs going for a walk before heading to the bar for a couple of pints.
A selection of pictures of John can be found on our Flickr site by following this link. There are some great photos in there, thanks to everyone who contributed!
Please spare a thought as you are tying up your shoe laces in memory of John.
