Handy Cross Cross Country Review
TVXC Race 3- Handy Cross, 30th November 2014
Two races down and cross country fever was sweeping through the Coasters camp. Even the legend of the Handy Cross hills did not frighten the brave.
Slowly but surely a determined and mighty collection of yellow shirts began to appear. At Finch Coasters, it’s not about where we finish, it’s about giving it our best shot and enjoying the occasion. On this occasion however, it was beginning to look like Team Finch had their big guns in position and ready to fire. In fact, The Coasters were looking so strong that the unknown was rising across the camp… It was unlikely that both Dave Jones and Damian Holmwood would score!
The gun was fired and the TWENTY strong Coasters were on their way. The hills were as promised/ remembered/ blocked out from previous years. More than one of the Team was seen walking. One man, however, who certainly wasn’t walking was Finch Coasters newest signing James Craggs.
So as the last of the cake was eaten, Finch Coasters were left to assess the race. The more they swapped stories and battle wounds, the more they realised that they had faired ok… More than ok in fact! With three finishers in the top 12, the mighty female combination of Yarrow and Widdup, 20 Coasters completing the course and a first place finish from Craggs things were looking very good indeed!
By the time the results reached Finch Coasters HQ, with the bramble scars beginning to fade, Finch Coasters found themselves in 5th position, 3 places up on Datchet and 2 up on Sandhurst. Battling up those hills, and trying to stay upright on the way down had all been worth it. The Finch Coasters had proven that determination and enthusiasm can get you a long way.
Well done to everyone who ran, not just those who scored. The more team members that turn out the better we do. Although not all the runners score for the club, running and coming outside the top 6 (men) and 3 (women) stops other teams from scoring so highly.
